Protagonist
My alias is Protagonist, and I’m a 21-year-old college student majoring in philosophy (in b4 “u want fries w/that?” comments). I have some background in computer science, including acting as administer for my school’s PHP-driven content management system, Moodle. I’ve been designing (or trying to design) websites since I was 11 years old. I started with the old table-type designs, which were clunky and difficult to code, but eventually saw the light and taught myself CSS.
I saved up an entire semester’s worth of checks from my job with the CMS, and, in February of 2008, I purchased a Wacom Intuos 9×12 Graphics Tablet. Since then, I have been learning to use it in Photoshop and Illustrator, and I can say that it was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I strongly recommend the Wacom for anyone interested in computer art or design.
In addition to playing with CSS and Photoshop, I also do quite a bit of knitted. I learned from a friend in 2007, and since then, I’ve accumulated quite a stash of yarn, made many hats, scarves, blankets, and odd little decorative things. I believe that, in many ways, knitting is very similar to CSS/web design, and skills from each (such as reading code and charts) seem to carry nicely into the other. Sometimes I post knitting things here, and occasionally even patterns.
I plan to graduate from college in 2009 with a degree in Continental Philosophy, and a year later with a History degree. Until then, I’ll be hanging around the dorms at my college, refusing to let my dormmates touch the Wacom, and generally goofing around with Photoshop and stylesheets.
